Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting team to ensure high performance and professional growth;
  • Allocate workload effectively and foster a supportive, collaborative work environment;
  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements in line with GAPSME, IFRS, and other applicable standards;
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes;
  • Coordinate with external auditors during statutory audits;
  • Ensure compliance with local reporting requirements and tax filings;
  • Oversee all client deliverables, including VAT and tax submissions;
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll functions;
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial data to senior management;
  • Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls;
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts, monitor variances, and provide insights to support business decisions;
  • Identify and address accounting or compliance risks proactively for both the company and its clients;
  • Implement and maintain accounting systems;
  • Evaluate emerging accounting tools/technologies to improve efficiency;
  • Recommend and execute process improvements to enhance accuracy and effectiveness;
  • Serve as the central point of contact for assigned clients;
  • Maintain and strengthen client relationships through responsive and tailored service delivery;
  • Stay up to date with changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and compliance requirements;
  • Participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain professional qualifications, warrants, or memberships in line with Maltese regulatory requirements.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, ACCA qualification, or equivalent;
  • Approximately 4-5 years of experience in an accounting environment;
  • Proven experience managing end-to-end accounting cycles, including financial reporting and payroll;
  • Exposure to GAPSME, IFRS, and local compliance requirements.
