Job Responsibilities and Duties
- Supervise, mentor, and develop the accounting team to ensure high performance and professional growth;
- Allocate workload effectively and foster a supportive, collaborative work environment;
- Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements in line with GAPSME, IFRS, and other applicable standards;
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes;
- Coordinate with external auditors during statutory audits;
- Ensure compliance with local reporting requirements and tax filings;
- Oversee all client deliverables, including VAT and tax submissions;
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll functions;
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial data to senior management;
- Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls;
- Prepare budgets and forecasts, monitor variances, and provide insights to support business decisions;
- Identify and address accounting or compliance risks proactively for both the company and its clients;
- Implement and maintain accounting systems;
- Evaluate emerging accounting tools/technologies to improve efficiency;
- Recommend and execute process improvements to enhance accuracy and effectiveness;
- Serve as the central point of contact for assigned clients;
- Maintain and strengthen client relationships through responsive and tailored service delivery;
- Stay up to date with changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and compliance requirements;
- Participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to maintain professional qualifications, warrants, or memberships in line with Maltese regulatory requirements.
Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, ACCA qualification, or equivalent;
- Approximately 4-5 years of experience in an accounting environment;
- Proven experience managing end-to-end accounting cycles, including financial reporting and payroll;
- Exposure to GAPSME, IFRS, and local compliance requirements.
