Company Introduction

Our client is a food producer and distributor based in Gozo.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plan, implement, and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programmes for production equipment and utility systems;
  • Develop and implement an improved Maintenance IT structure to enhance departmental efficiency and operational control;
  • Ensure maximum plant availability, reliability, and operational performance at all times;
  • Manage and supervise engineering contractors and external service providers;
  • Prepare and monitor maintenance budgets and oversee capital expenditure projects;
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing production efficiency and equipment performance;
  • Ensure all engineering and maintenance activities comply with applicable food safety and hygiene standards;
  • Ensure full compliance with Maltese Occupational Health and Safety Authority (OHSA) regulations;
  • Maintain adherence to environmental requirements set by the Environment & Resources Authority (ERA) and REWS;
  • Support compliance with food safety standards, including HACCP and BRC/IFS;
  • Develop and regularly update risk assessments, method statements, and safe systems of work;
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective and preventive measures;
  • Promote and strengthen a safety-first culture across production, warehouse, and engineering operations;
  • Monitor environmental performance indicators, including waste management, water consumption, emissions, and sustainability initiatives;
  • Ensure compliance with local permits and environmental licences;
  • Maintain environmental documentation and liaise with regulatory authorities as required;
  • Drive initiatives focused on environmental improvement and energy efficiency.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering;
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience within a manufacturing environment; experience in the food industry will be considered an advantage;
  • Strong knowledge of Maltese OHSA, ERA, and REWS regulatory frameworks;
  • Proven experience in maintenance planning and asset management systems;
  • NEBOSH or equivalent Health & Safety certification will be considered an asset.
