Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage the Company's debt recovery and remedial management activities, ensuring effective handling of distressed and non-performing exposures;
  • Oversee arrears management and collections processes, including monitoring overdue accounts, engaging with borrowers, and negotiating repayment arrangements;
  • Develop, implement, and enhance recovery strategies, procedures, and frameworks relating to arrears management, restructurings, and enforcement actions;
  • Manage non-performing exposures through direct engagement with clients, supporting restructuring initiatives and settlement negotiations;
  • Coordinate recovery actions, including restructurings, settlements, enforcement proceedings, and collateral realisation processes;
  • Act as the primary liaison between the Company and external legal advisors, recovery agents, and other relevant stakeholders;
  • Escalate problematic exposures to senior management and relevant committees in a timely manner and provide accurate reporting;
  • Develop and maintain monitoring tools, management information, and reporting related to recoveries and arrears management;
  • Support the review and enhancement of internal policies, procedures, and controls relating to debt recovery and remedial management activities;
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, governance standards, and internal policies throughout all recovery processes;
  • Contribute to credit-related decisions, particularly those involving restructuring proposals and distressed lending exposures.

Experience

  • Degree in Finance, Banking, Law, or a related field;
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience within debt recovery, restructuring, remedial management, or a similar role within a banking environment;
  • Strong understanding of the Maltese banking sector, including local market practices, legal frameworks, and enforcement procedures;
  • Familiarity with Maltese insolvency, collateral enforcement, and debt recovery processes;
  • Experience managing corporate client relationships and negotiating repayment or restructuring solutions;
  • Good understanding of regulatory requirements relating to non-performing loans (NPLs) and provisioning;
  • Fluent in Maltese and English, both written and spoken.
