Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Play a key role in developing, leading, and expanding the firm’s Fintech practice;
  • Provide legal and regulatory advice on matters relating to MiCA and the wider EU digital asset framework;
  • Advise on the licensing and registration of Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASPs);
  • Assist clients with the issuance, offering, and admission to trading of crypto-assets;
  • Provide guidance on stablecoins, electronic money tokens, digital wallets, exchanges, tokenisation structures, and blockchain infrastructures;
  • Support clients in structuring and launching fintech and digital asset projects within the EU regulatory environment;
  • Advise on MFSA licensing processes, regulatory compliance, prudential requirements, governance frameworks, outsourcing arrangements, and ongoing supervisory obligations;
  • Provide regulatory support to Electronic Money Institutions (EMIs), Payment Service Providers (PSPs), and Crypto-Asset Service Providers (CASPs);
  • Draft and review regulatory documentation, compliance manuals, internal policies, and control frameworks;
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients operating within fintech, crypto, virtual assets, and other regulated financial services sectors;
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the firm’s fintech client portfolio;
  • Represent the firm at industry conferences, regulatory consultations, and sector-related initiatives;
  • Contribute to thought leadership initiatives, including articles, seminars, webinars, and regulatory guidance publications.

Experience

  • Warranted lawyer or senior professional with proven experience in financial services and fintech regulation;
  • Strong understanding of Maltese and EU financial services legislation and regulatory frameworks;
  • Good working knowledge of MiCA, DORA, PSD2–PSD3, EMD, MiFID II, and related regulatory regimes;
  • Experience engaging with regulatory authorities, particularly the MFSA and FIAU.
