Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead and oversee the Accounting & Controlling department, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with MFSA, ECB, and IFRS standards;
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, guaranteeing all accounting records are precise and thoroughly documented;
  • Supervise the preparation and submission of statutory financial statements and regulatory filings;
  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls to protect financial data integrity and safeguard the Bank’s assets;
  • Coordinate budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities aligned with the organization’s strategic objectives;
  • Perform cost accounting, profitability assessments, and variance analysis to inform business decisions;
  • Develop, implement, and refine financial policies, procedures, and systems to enhance operational efficiency;
  • Serve as the primary liaison for auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory authorities, overseeing audits and compliance inspections;
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless financial data integration across departments;
  • Stay updated on evolving accounting standards, tax laws, and banking regulations, ensuring their timely adoption;
  • Mentor and guide the finance team, promoting a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and high performance.

Experience

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA or equivalent), or nearing completion of qualification;
  • At least 5 years’ experience in accounting and finance, ideally within banking or financial services;
  • Comprehensive understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and regulatory bodies such as MFSA and ECB;
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel;
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English.

  • Demonstrated leadership and experience managing teams effectively;
  • Strong analytical abilities with great attention to detail;
  • Track record of designing, implementing, and maintaining robust internal controls and financial procedures;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of collaborating across departments and engaging external partners.
