Sara’s Internship Insights
Interns, regarded as future leaders, come from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Sara’s time as a Marketing Intern at Rocksteady Digital Agency, affiliated with Broadwing, provided valuable insights into Human Resources and recruitment. While internships in scenic locations like Malta may be appealing, the true essence lies in the organisation’s culture. Each day as an intern brings new challenges and growth opportunities, shaping a transformative path towards excellence.
Whether one is dreaming of climbing up the career ladder or simply seeking a solid, long-term position in the corporate world, we all must start from somewhere. As we celebrate National Intern Day, some people refer to interns as the future leaders of the world. However, the reality is that breaking into the professional world is challenging, not to mention fraught with stress and anxiety. The term ‘intern’ also conjures up images of young university students seeking experience, but this day sheds light on the bigger picture – interns come from all ages and are not always solely tied to university degrees. Many interns are already seasoned professionals simply choosing to pivot their career paths.
As a previous Marketing Intern at Broadwing’s sister company, Rocksteady Digital Agency, my tasks revolved around the requirements of my university degree – content writing, graphic design, and project coordination. Yet working so closely with the recruitment agency allowed me to gain an immense amount of experience in Human Resources, recruitment, and gave me insights into the changing professional world.
Each year, more students opt to pursue their internships in Malta, drawn by its 300 days of sunshine and extraordinary scenery. However, the essence of a rewarding internship lies not only in its destination but the company itself. Broadwing stood out to me for numerous reasons, with the most remarkable ones listed below:
Close Team Collaboration
While you may imagine internships taking place in big corporations with even bigger hierarchies, Broadwing stands out for its close-knit team and close collaborations. Here, there are no closed office doors; each team member is eager to assist you at any point, allowing you to improve your own communication and collaboration skills as an intern. With a constant flow of new, exciting projects, you’ll have a chance to work with various team members.
During my internship at Broadwing Recruitment, I gained valuable insight into the world of recruitment: from processes to challenges, including hiring the right talent and reducing staff turnover. Working with such a wonderful team of recruiters made my whole experience truly rewarding.

Diverse International Projects
Unlike the internships where your tasks remain constant and are mainly related to administrative tasks, you are able to tackle a wide range of responsibilities at Broadwing Recruitment. From HR and sales to content creation and brainstorming, it might seem intimidating at first, but that’s where the key to the internship is hidden: Broadwing is all about personal and professional growth, no matter how daunting it may seem at first.
Having a Voice
Being an intern should be more than just assisting in everyday tasks; your input and fresh perspective should be valued and heard. Whether you have new ideas or suggestions for improvement, your contributions are important at Broadwing, proving that valuable insights are not always tied to extensive experience.
Personally, one of the highlights for me at Broadwing was having other interns around. Who doesn’t love the company of peers, especially when executing seemingly frightening tasks that you have never done before? Furthermore, the collaboration of interns from both the marketing and recruitment teams creates an exciting and eye-opening dynamic in the office.
Maya Said, a recruitment intern at Broadwing, highlights the key aspects that have been invaluable to her development as a future communications professional. Three months into her first-ever internship, she has been actively involved in the JobMatch project, gaining exposure to business development and project coordination. Maya credits her supportive team and fellow interns for helping her quickly adapt to the vibrant office.
This is not a coffee run or endless photocopying internship – this is diving into the deep end with new projects and reasonable responsibility, laying a solid foundation for my future career steps.
– Maya Said, Sales and Marketing Intern at Broadwing
In conclusion, every intern I have known at Broadwing speaks highly of their experiences, especially when it comes to working on international projects. Routine tasks are a part of any professional role, and it is no different at Broadwing, but this recruitment team knows that comfort hinders true growth, which is why you are trusted with challenging and impactful tasks. As I grew from a Marketing Intern to a Communications and Marketing Executive (as well as a JobMatch Certified Specialist) at Broadwing, I can say that not only did I gain a part-time working position, but I got a new kind of family. To be precise, the kind of family that will always root for my success and growth.
