Job Responsibilities and Duties
- Define and execute financial strategies that support the company’s vision, growth objectives, and regulatory requirements;
- Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and medium- to long-term financial planning processes to support scalability, liquidity management, and operational performance;
- Identify and drive initiatives for cost efficiency, revenue enhancement, and optimal capital utilisation, providing data-backed insights to senior leadership;
- Oversee all financial operations and reporting activities, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with Maltese and EU regulatory frameworks, including MFSA licensing obligations;
- Manage regulatory financial reporting requirements related to Electronic Money Institution (EMI) and Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) activities;
- Coordinate internal and external audits, manage auditor relationships, prepare audit documentation, and ensure timely resolution and remediation of findings;
- Deliver clear, actionable financial analysis and recommendations to the CEO and leadership team to support strategic decision-making;
- Establish, scale, and continuously improve the finance function, including systems, controls, processes, and best practices suited to a fast-growing, regulated fintech environment;
- Ensure robust corporate governance and compliance with financial, legal, and operational risk management frameworks;
- Support wider finance-related compliance and operational activities during the early growth phase, including development of financial policies, internal controls, and cross-functional processes;
- Work closely with Treasury to ensure effective liquidity planning and timely execution of payments;
- Oversee financial systems, reporting tools, and data integrity across the organisation;
- Manage all corporate tax matters, including VAT and statutory tax obligations, ensuring accurate calculations, timely filings, and full compliance with applicable legislation;
- Lead group consolidation activities, ensuring accurate and timely consolidation of financial results across multiple entities;
- Ensure intercompany transactions are properly recorded, reconciled, and compliant with transfer pricing regulations.
Experience
- Hold a recognised professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, or equivalent;
- Meet fit and proper requirements and be eligible for approval by the MFSA;
- Extensive experience in finance leadership, accounting, and strategic planning within regulated financial services or fintech environments;
- Proven experience operating within EMI, payments, crypto, or similar regulated frameworks is highly desirable;
- Demonstrated success in high-growth or startup environments, including building or scaling finance functions from the ground up;
- Strong understanding of EU financial regulation, supervisory reporting, and MFSA licensing requirements (EMI and CASP);
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with financial and accounting systems;
- Solid experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and financial analysis;
- Exposure to crypto assets, blockchain technologies, or digital payment platforms will be considered an advantage.
