Job Responsibilities and Duties
- Manage legal and notarial contracts and documentation, ensuring applicable requirements and deadlines are met;
- Provide legal and notarial guidance to employees and support the coordination of departmental activities;
- Liaise with notaries, legal advisers, and other relevant professionals as required;
- Monitor local and international legal and regulatory developments relevant to the organisation's activities;
- Ensure compliance with applicable Maltese and EU legislation and governance requirements;
- Manage litigation matters and provide legal advice and support to the CEO and other Directorates;
- Conduct legal research and advise on legislation, contracts, governmental matters, and data protection requirements;
- Represent the organisation during the execution of contracts and prepare the required legal documentation;
- Carry out notarial duties, including the vetting and drafting of documentation and relevant tax calculations;
- Draft and publish deeds and private writings in accordance with CAP 55 of the Laws of Malta;
- Manage post-publication procedures, notarial registers, and the indexing of deeds;
- Provide guidance on procedural and general notarial matters;
- Lead and coordinate departmental activities, ensuring established objectives and standards are achieved;
- Monitor team performance, provide feedback, and identify areas requiring improvement;
- Report departmental shortcomings to the CEO and respective Chief Officer and recommend appropriate solutions.
Experience
- In possession of a Law Degree and a warrant to practice in the Courts of Malta and Gozo, with at least 1 year of experience in a legal or notarial role. Alternatively, in possession of a Law Degree and currently in the process of obtaining a warrant, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the legal or notarial field;
- Proficiency in both Maltese and English, written and spoken;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
