Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead and develop the firm’s tax function, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s strategic objectives and long-term growth plans;
  • Identify opportunities to expand the firm’s tax service offering and support the development of new revenue streams;
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, promoting efficiency, innovation, and the effective use of tax technology and automation tools;
  • Provide expert tax advisory services on corporate restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, investment structures, and other complex tax matters;
  • Advise on transfer pricing policies and documentation in line with applicable regulations and international standards;
  • Act as the primary tax advisor for key clients, delivering commercially focused and practical tax guidance;
  • Monitor developments in Maltese and international taxation, including OECD initiatives, Pillar 2, CRS, FATCA, and other regulatory frameworks, and communicate their impact to clients and internal stakeholders;
  • Oversee corporate tax compliance obligations, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, filings, and regulatory submissions;
  • Develop and maintain tax governance, risk management frameworks, policies, and procedures to support compliance and operational efficiency;
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with regulators, tax authorities, auditors, and industry stakeholders;
  • Develop and strengthen long-term client relationships through the provision of proactive tax advice and support;
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify cross-selling opportunities and deliver integrated client solutions;
  • Participate in industry events, seminars, and professional associations to enhance the firm's profile and visibility within the tax sector;
  • Lead, mentor, and develop members of the tax team, supporting performance management, succession planning, and professional growth;
  • Promote technical excellence through training initiatives, knowledge sharing, and continuous professional development activities;
  • Support business development initiatives, client pitches, presentations, and relationship-building activities;
  • Contribute to the development of thought leadership content, technical publications, and client communications;
  • Oversee budgeting, billing, and the financial performance of the tax service line;
  • Provide insights on tax developments, regulatory changes, and market trends to support strategic decision-making.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Law, Taxation, or an equivalent professional qualification;
  • Extensive experience within tax advisory, tax compliance, and tax planning functions;
  • Strong knowledge of Maltese tax legislation, international tax developments, and regulatory reporting requirements;
  • Proven experience within a professional services, corporate services, financial services, or similar environment;
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within a tax function or practice;
  • Experience supporting business development initiatives and managing client relationships.
