Our client is an emerging financial services company.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the company’s vision, growth plans, and regulatory obligations;
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning to support expansion and operational efficiency;
  • Identify opportunities for cost optimisation, revenue growth, and capital efficiency;
  • Oversee all financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with Maltese and EU regulations, including MFSA licensing requirements;
  • Monitor and manage regulatory reporting obligations for the Electronic Money Institution (EMI) and Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP), and Investment Services operations;
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring timely resolution of audit findings;
  • Provide actionable financial insights and recommendations to the CEO;
  • Build and develop the finance function, including processes, systems, and best practices suitable for a fast-growing, regulated fintech environment;
  • Ensure strong corporate governance and adherence to financial, legal, and operational risk frameworks;
  • Support the business with broader finance-related compliance and operational tasks during the initial growth phase (e.g., assisting with the development of financial policies and controls, and contributing to process design).

Experience

  • Possess an ACCA, CPA, or equivalent professional finance qualification;
  • Fit and proper person and able to be approved / PQ’d by the MFSA;
  • Extensive experience in finance, accounting, and strategic planning within regulated financial services or fintech, ideally including electronic money, payments, crypto-asset, or investment service operations;
  • Demonstrated track record in a startup or high-growth environment, with experience building finance functions from the ground up;
  • Knowledge of financial regulations, supervisory reporting, and compliance requirements in the EU, particularly MFSA licensing frameworks (EMI and CASP);
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with accounting/financial systems;
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and analytics;
  • Exposure to crypto-asset management, blockchain, or digital payment platforms will be an asset.
